0030-running faster
top tip, recover from injuries quicker

Time away from your training means that you aren't improving your times, and worse still you may be going backwards.

To reduce the effect of this recover from injuries as quickly as you can. You can't do this by will alone you have to take appriate action. Knowing what action to take is the hard bit and I am not an expert. My options are:

Consult a physio / doctor.

Stop running on the injury - start running too soon and it may just prolong the injury.

Exercise the injury gently.

Run through the injury.

Massage, recovery exercises such as stretching, pain killers, anti inflamatories, ice, heat.

Each of those will have an impact, use the right one and you will promote recovery, get it wrong and things get worse. Knowing which to use is helpful and when I find it, I will let you know.

Like all things though you can bring a bit of science to bear. Researching the injury is good, google is always at hand along with the people you run with. If you have had the injury before, what happened last time.

But for me, the biggest thing is not to get back too quickly or too hard. Better a couple of extras days off recovering rather than coming back too soon and ending up having to take 2 weeks off.
