centred - a great place to be

Being centred - here it means being mentally in the best place possible.

A good analogy is the position that a goal keeper would be in if he were about to face a penalty, he would be in the centre of the goal, slightly crouched and ready to dive. An alternative could be for him to be standing bolt upright at one side of the goal but if he were to do that then he wouldn't save as many goals.

So centred here is the equivalent in mental terms. What centred is for any situation will vary from one moment to the next.

It is quite useful to be aware of what the opposite of centred could be at times:

  • Being beside yourself
  • Not thinking straight
  • Being in the grip of your emotions
  • Having a tantrum
  • Being tired
  • Not being aware of what people are trying to tell you
  • Not being open to new ideas
  • And ..............

Of course there could be situations where some of the above are the best place to be, but generally speaking we probably want to spend less time there rather than more.

At the same time you wouldn't want to be mega alert at all times, if you were, you wouldn't sleep. In the same way that prejudging some situations could be really helpful if they are so fast moving that you don't have any time to think before you act.

Being centred is not a uniform state and it is not right or wrong, it is your best shot at the best state to be in at this moment. That could be asleep or listening or .... And the call you make will not always be the best one, there will be times when you make the wrong decision because of unforseeable circumstances.

And the deeper you look the more complex it could get, but imagine that you know everything about being centred and just have a feeling for what being centred is, and if you can't do that, then just preten.
