how to run a swish pattern
- level 1

The aim of a swish pattern is that when a specific internal representation appears, it is instantly replaced by another. This can be helpful in a number of situations for example when an internal rep starts a chain of behaviour which is unwanted, then by substituting that internal rep for another the original course of behaviour is not initiated and instead something else happens.

To make the change:

Go through your pre change process.

Then elicit the initial internal representation in good detail and then the desired internal rep in similar detail.

Then hold the first internal rep and in the corner of it have a small version of the second.

Then get the two to swap so that the first becomes small and in the corner and the second becomes the larger. At the same use the internal dialogue of SWISH.

Repeat several times then test. If needed repeat several more times potentially with periodic reminders to seat the change into habit.
