0004-running
when it feels like it is time to give up you are halfway there

Was out running today, this session was about getting my 10k time under 40 mins and specifically by running that pace for as far as I could. Interestingly, or not, I got to about 1.5k and thought it is just about time to give up however by a few tricks of the mind I managed to keep going beyond the next corner, and the next one, then past a lane end, then past the 2.5k marker, then down and up a dip, then past two more telegraph poles before 4k pace finally over took me. In other words when I got to the point of thinking it is time to let up and then managed to keep the same pace up for the same distance again.

A while ago I was talking to a mate who was into free diving, ie taking a lung full of air and then staying under water for as long as possible. He had had the advice that when you feel like you must go to the surface and take a breath, that you are just half way through the time. A bit more committing than justing letting up on the pace, but the idea behind it supports the running.

The result was that I got a personal best, from 2k up to 3.84km. Quite surprised my self with that.
